Description

North Dakota public agencies deal with winter weather many months of the year. This training examines current methods of winter maintenance on the urban transportation system. The topics provided for this training will focus on:

  • Public Works snow fighting policies and strategies
  • The appropriate snow/ice control equipment and techniques for proper treatment of road surfaces under varied condition
  • Best Practices used by municipalities for snow operation
  • Distinguishing between safe and unsafe practices during snow operation
  • Off-Season Planning/Organizing/Preparations/Maintenance
  • Anti-Icing and De-Icing: strategies, techniques, and materials - how and when to use them based on different road temperatures and conditions
  • Snow and Ice Control: strategies, techniques, and procedures
  • Snow Fighting Equipment: what is being used, when to use it, and how to use it safely and effectively

Speaker(s)

Chad Schiermeister has been a Crew Leader with the City of Bismarck Street Department for the last 4 years. He has been with the City of Bismarck for 18 years, starting his career as a heavy equipment operator II in the Street Department. He took over the city's sign shop in 2013. Chad enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and taking vacations with his wife!

Denise Brown. Program Manager for NDLTAP. Denise has been employed with the North Dakota Local Technical Assistance Program (NDLTAP) for 17 years. She serves on several national committees and has attended several trainings and train-the-trainer sessions on roadway safety. Denise's passion for roadway safety focuses on getting everyone home safely every day.
